TAIPEI — Nvidia on Monday unveiled a new chip that puts artificial intelligence capabilities directly into laptops and desktop computers, pitting it against the likes of Advanced Micro Devices, Intel and Apple. CEO Jensen Huang, who is in Taiwan for the Computex conference, said the RTX Spark PC chip is part of Nvidia's effort with Microsoft to "reinvent the PC" for the AI era after three years of collaboration between the companies. The chip, developed with Taiwan's MediaTek, will debut this fall in laptops and compact desktops from Dell , HP, Lenovo, ASUS, Microsoft Surface and MSI, with models from Acer and GIGABYTE to follow. Industry experts said the processor would overhaul engagement with AI as it is designed to run autonomous AI agents locally rather than relying solely on cloud computing. After dominating chips that train AI models, Nvidia is now pushing to capture an expected surge in demand for inference processors, chips that power AI responses to user queries and the
Microsoft is heading to San Francisco this week in a bid to win back developers at its Build conference. I've been attending Build since the days when Microsoft called it the Professional Developers Conference, and I can't remember a more pivotal moment. As Microsoft continues to reshuffle its entire business around AI, it's moving Build into a smaller, more intimate venue. Trust in Windows and GitHub is at an all-time low, and this is Microsoft's chance to reconnect with developers and outline the future. Sources tell me that we'll hear about new AI models in Windows, a new reasoning model from Microsoft AI, and a Copilot "super app." But … Read the full story at The Verge.

The Revolution of Local AI: Bonsai Image 4B Brings Diffusion Models to iPhones For years, advanced image generation has been the exclusive domain of cloud services. Creating high-quality images required sending your prompts to remote servers, waiting for processing, and accepting the latency and privacy implications that come with cloud-based AI. PrismML's new Bonsai Image 4B changes this equation entirely by bringing state-of-the-art image generation directly to local devices — including iPhone...
One of the outcomes of the past few decades of focus on the development of tissue engineering and cell therapies is an increased understanding of what can be achieved with nanomaterials, meaning any manufactured substance or structure with nanoscale features that can engage with cells in a defined way. The use of nanoscale scaffolding to emulate aspects of the extracellular matrix in order to support transplanted cells is a going concern, for example. Another line of research and development is the use of nanoparticles that are engineered to steer tissue penetration in specific directions, release cargo in response to specific stimuli, and interact with cells to alter their behavior. Here, researchers review the state of the art in the context of developing therapies for osteoarthritis, […]

Supermassive black holes are the largest known black holes in the universe, sitting at the center of most large galaxies. They are sometimes described as cosmic monsters because they feed on surrounding gas and dust when they are active, as well as destroy anything that gets too close.
